You might be wondering if UV light kills mold. While a UV light may seem like an easy fix for mold removal, UV lights aren't a practical solution for most mold situations. In fact, you might be surprised how little UV light does to resolve a mold issue. We'll walk through some of the practical limitations of UV.

UV-C light can kill mold spores and prevent their growth. While UV-C is effective at disrupting mold spore DNA and preventing reproduction, it has limitations for comprehensive mold remediation. Its effectiveness depends on direct exposure and length of time exposed, surface type, and the presence of hidden mold. UV-C light is best used in specific, controlled settings, such as HVAC systems or medical environments, but may not reach all mold-affected areas in a home. Moreover, UV light will absolutely not kill the mold sporing in your HVAC system. This is because mold thrives behind the UV light, and when stressed, shoots millions of spores out towards you and the rest of the home. UV light won't kill them. Those spores are moving way too fast to be affected by UV-C in a typical HVAC placement.
